More About UUSD

Welcome to UUSD’s web site!  Perhaps you are a lifetime U.U. looking to learn more about the congregations who make up our association.  Maybe you are a first-time inquirer, curious about Unitarian Universalism, this congregation, or both.  Whatever leads you here, we're glad you’re here.

If you've just moved to this area and are looking for a place to make friends, you'll find the UU church a great place to meet people who share many of y our values, even if we don’t all share the same opinions.  What is really refreshing is the supportive atmosphere you can find here in southern Delaware.  The people who make up the congregation come from a wide range of life experiences and places.  They don’t agree on everything, but they all agree that together we can make some important differences in our personal lives and in the world.

When you come to visit us, you will find people of all ages and all of us are interested in learning more.  Each Sunday morning we have children’s religious education programs staffed by a team of veteran volunteers.  We also offer periodic programs for adult learners too.  Check our calendar for upcoming events.  You will also find plenty of people who are more than happy to share an opinion on anything from the weather to foreign affairs.

Beyond holding opinions, we are active in the wider community.  You will find us involved in social justice activities.  We regularly express our support for the advancement of issues vital to our Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual and Transgender communities.  Our members are involved in working with people in our area who are economically disadvantaged.  We are attuned to racial discrimination and continue the efforts to secure and maintain women’s rights.  Perhaps it is the beauty of our land that is our inspiration for the ongoing work for environmental justice.  Clearly, the care and concerns of UUSD do not stop at its doors.

We try to be mindful of the spirit as well.  In our worship services we strive to provide comfort, encouragement and inspiration with music, messages, and sharing.  Because we value the role of an individual’s conscience in matters of spirituality, our services are designed to be as open and affirming as possible.  If you come for several weeks, you may notice that variety is part of our worship experience.  Some weeks we have different speakers, guest musicians, or special events.  It’s a good idea to come more than once to really see what we are all about.  One of the tenets of our faith is that we, as individuals and a community, continue to grow and change.

Would you like to know more? You can contact us at info@uusd.org, or feel free to contact our minister or the President of the Board of Trustees who are listed on the Contacts page.  For more information on Unitarian Universalism in general, check out the Unitarian Universalist Association’s web site.
